RM Seminar “Physiological role of exosomes” Vondelzaal Stratenum (Str3.108)

Michiel Pegtel is an associate professor at the department of pathology
(Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc, The Netherlands). He conducted his practical
training as an undergraduate student at the National Cancer Institute (Bethesda,

gy from Tufts University Medical School (Boston, USA) while collaborating with the
MIT Broad Institute (Cambridge, USA) on the molecular characterization of virus-
induced cancer. After postdoctoral training at the Netherlands Cancer Institute
(Amsterdam, The Netherlands) in basic cell biology, he started the Exosomes Re-
search group at the VUmc university medical center. Current members of his
group focus on exosome biogenesis, small RNA biology and the development of
novel liquid biopsy strategies for cancer and autoimmune patients. For his early
work on the transfer of miRNAs via exosomes Michiel was awarded the Beijerinck
