RM Seminar: Prof. D. Stamatialis
“(Bio) Artificial Organs to MIMIC or replace falling organs”
Dimitrios Stamatialis is Full Professor of (bio)artificial organs at MIRA Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technical Medicine, University of Twente (The Netherlands). After obtaining his PhD in Physical Chemistry at the University of Athens (Greece), he has started his academic career working in the fields of membrane and biomaterials science and Technology at the University of Twente. His current research is focused on development of extracorporeal (bio)artificial kidney and pancreas devices and organs-on-chips. Prof Stamatialis is the chairman of the working group on “Bioartificial organs” of the European Society for Artificial organs (ESAO) and a member of the EuTox group, an ESAO working group dealing with the coordination of European research on uremic toxins. He is Editor of the Tissue Engineering, Bioartificial Organs and Regenerative Medicine section of the International Journal of Artificial Organs. (IJAO) He also coordinated the ‘BIOART’ network, a Marie Curie ITN for developing innovative (bio) artificial devices for the treatment of kidney and liver disease.
