Hans Clevers becomes President of ISSCR
Hans Clevers is the next president of the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR). ISSCR is an independent nonprofit organization founded in 2002 and fosters the exchange of information on stem cell research.
Clevers identified that Wnt signaling is crucial for adult stem cell biology and discovered the LgR5 gene as a critical regulator of adult stem cells in a variety of organs. He has also developed methods to create mini organs (organoids) from patients with diseases such as cancer and cystic fibrosis. He is a group leader at the Hubrecht Institute (KNAW), Professor of Molecular Genetics at Utrecht University/UMC Utrecht and Scientific Director of the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology.
