Alexandre Suerman stipend for Suze Jansen
Every year the UMC Utrecht awards four promising young researchers who have just graduated medical school the Alexandre Suerman MD-PhD Stipend. The
€ 165.000 worth personal stipend enables them to continue the research done during their Masters’ scientific internship as PhD candidates.
This year Suze Jansen is one of them. Under guidance of Dr. Caroline Lindemans and Prof. dr. Edward Nieuwenhuis of the Department of Paediatrics Suze will work on intestinal Graft-versus-Host disease, a lethal side effect of bone marrow transplantations in which donor immune cells damage the patients organs. Using a co-culture model of intestinal organoids and immune cells, Suze will investigate the role of the intestinal epithelium and its damage in the pathophysiology of intestinal Graft-versus-Host disease.
